Sermons from Good News: Finding Purpose in Life

Church 4/26/2026

Offertory scripture:

“They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing,”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭92‬:‭14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Sermon message:

Began message by praying for President Trump and our country.

Thesis: Finding purpose in life.

We have lots of questions about life, especially when we are young.

Whether related to careers or family or marriage or serving God. The “how.”

You are not an accident or a mistake. God made you for a purpose and a reason in this world. You are part of God’s master plan.

Point #1: You can find God’s purpose for your life.

““Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Every person God creates has a purpose for their life.
The Old Testament is a type and shadow of the New Testament. So Old Testament scriptures still speak.

““Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.””
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

God already knows what He has planned for you. But we need to ask seek and knock. And to seek Him.

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29‬:‭11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Even when He says this directly to Jeremiah it applies to everyone.

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
‭‭John‬ ‭10‬:‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

God’s plans vs our plans vs the devil’s plans.

God’s plan is to bless you and not harm you. To bring abundance.

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Why can we ask God’s plan? Because He already does have a plan.

You are not an accident or a mistake. God made you for a purpose and a reason in this world. You are part of God’s master plan. It doesn’t matter what your family says; God planned for you.

Point 2: Jesus had real purpose for His life.

He was born to be the Savior of the world.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

He came to save those who were lost.

“For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭18‬:‭11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

He came to give life and abundant life.

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
‭‭John‬ ‭10‬:‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

He came to do the will of the Father.

“Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.”
‭‭John‬ ‭4‬:‭34‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

God anointed Jesus to bring the good news to people.

““The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.””
‭‭Luke‬ ‭4‬:‭18‬-‭19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

If Jesus had a purpose for His life, then so do you. (If you’ve received Him.)

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭8‬-‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

You aren’t saved by your works but you were saved for good works in Jesus Christ.

Point 3: Qualities of Jesus’s purpose.

He blessed others.

God loves you. He doesn’t condemn you but he does come to convict you so you can receive him and let him change your heart and life.

Point 4: Jesus’s purpose was challenged.

The devil will try to tempt us to forget God or please Him. But instead we should love God, serve Him, and serve others.

Th devil tries to attack you because you are Christ like and he hates that. You’ll be mocked, rejected, ignored, attacked, abused. But don’t give up on God’s purpose.

Don’t be surprised if the above happens.

“Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you;”
‭‭I Peter‬ ‭4‬:‭12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Just like what Peter says: don’t feel as if strange things are happening to you.

Say: not my will but Yours, God, be done.
Get behind me Satan! Not my will be done. Not the devil’s will be done. But Your plan Father God be done in my life. In Jesus’s name.

Point 5: Only in Jesus can you find real purpose.

Only after you’ve received Jesus and submitted to Him will you find purpose and rewards that last forever through eternity.

Point 6: God-given purpose.

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28‬:‭18‬-‭20‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Regardless of your career or whether you get married and have a family or not, the Great Commission is the chief purpose.

[My addition:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭33‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Our God-given purpose is to tell people about Jesus Christ. Then the other things will line up.

“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.””
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16‬:‭15‬-‭18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Regarding going into the world where there is a lot of negativity, we are to be a light and shine the light of Christ and to do good to one another.

““You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭14‬-‭16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭6‬:‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

We are to comfort and edify one another.

“Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.”
‭‭I Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

We are to pray.

“pray without ceasing,”
‭‭I Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

We are to gather together.

“not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10‬:‭25‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

We are to give financial support to our church to bless the work of God on earth.

“So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.”
‭‭II Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

My pastor didn’t add the below, but I think it’s appropriate as an ending:

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.”
‭‭II Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
