Devotionals from my Bible app: From Worldly Worries to Spiritual Anticipation (Matthew 6:25)

Note before sharing the devotional: as a confession, I've been fretting about certain worldly worries more than usual lately. There are indeed events going on in and around this world, this country, as well as the local area in which I live that are worrisome. I'm not going to pretend they aren't. Similarly, as I am anticipating a life change next year (really, around three in total), there are a lot of things to figure out, and questions as to how (and even if) these things will indeed work out. But, as I had come across a TikTok video devotional recently that stated thus: "God is bigger than your problems" and "God is bigger than your questions," it is a reminder for me to 1.) remember the Lord, and 2.) talk to Him about the worries and questions I have, and 3.) trust that He will actually help me out. And #4.) that the help He does provide is in fact better than anything I could do. Now, I still have my part to play; I still have to go out and get the things done that I must. But, He is the One who ultimate makes it happen. And my complete trust in Him in and His plan is a must.

So, I invite you all to repeat the below with me:

God is bigger than my questions,

and,

God is bigger than my problems.

Amen!

From Worldly Worries to Spiritual Anticipation

How much time do you spend thinking about what to eat or worrying about what to wear? Do you obsess over having—or being—enough?

While there’s nothing wrong with meal planning for the weeks ahead or creating an annual budget, Jesus explains that worrying doesn’t help:

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?”

Jesus never said not to think about your basic needs. He did say not to worry about them.

God knows what you need before you do. God knows your prayers before you pray them.

Recognizing your physical needs can remind you of your spiritual needs—an invitation to trust your ultimate Provider.

Later in the same chapter, Jesus reminds His disciples that if God provides for the birds and the flowers, He will provide for His people that much more. Then He adds, “but seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (
Matthew 6:33).

So, let’s seek Him first. During this season of Advent, reflect upon the work entrusted to us while trusting in Him for provision. And let’s not waste another second on worldly worries!
