2019 Prayer and Fasting, Day 6

At my church I am part of a band that does worship nights as part of a small group (aka Bible study/prayer group) for the arts community, as well as art appreciators. The group is called Hope for Artists. Every so often, like once every month or so, we will have a group meeting that specifically focuses on worshiping God, with the option of also doing so through one's creative gifts. In the band, all the members share the responsibility of bringing a song that one would like us to do. Depending on the size of the band, and especially if the band is smaller, sometimes a person will end up bringing more than one song.

This summer at Hope for Artists, we will do two such worship events at our church, first on Monday, June 17th, and second on Monday, July 22nd.

Back in the spring, we had an interesting consistent theme that emerged through several of the songs in the worship set each time. The theme itself was to surrender to God; but even more interestingly is how we ended up incorporating some songs that had almost the same exact message. The two songs below (I will paste the lyrics) will show what I mean.

Nothing I Hold Onto -- Will Regan and the United Pursuit Band

I lean not on my own understanding
My life is in the hands of the Maker of heaven.
I give it all to You, God
Trusting that You'll make something beautiful out of me.
I will climb this mountain with my hands wide open.
There's nothing I hold onto.

Withholding Nothing -- William McDowell

I surrender all to You, everything I give to You
Withholding nothing
I give You all of me
King Jesus, my Savior, forever
I give You all of me
