Sermons from Good News: God's goodness and why we "deserve" it

Church 6/4/2022

Offertory scripture:

Remember that God is a mighty savior. He will deliver you.

Sermon message:

God’s goodness and why we "deserve" it

Caveat: it’s not about who we are but rather whose we are.

Issue: covenants are not understood today in the same way they were back in say, King David’s day

Giants like to talk. The question is: what do we do and how do we respond?

David defeated Goliath because he knew he had God backing him up.

Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. If you lack abundance of faith in your heart, you can do something about it: read and meditate on God’s Word day and night. Speak God’s Word also.

Mark 11 - Jesus spoke to the fig tree and cursed it. Verses 19-25

Ask; believe when you pray; forgive if you have been hurt or offended by someone or several people. Your response will determine your future. Faith works by love. God is bigger than whatever happened to you.

Genesis 15 - God and Abraham make a covenant.

Romans 4:17-25 Paul recaps Abraham’s covenant with God

Confident joyous expectation = biblical hope

Wishful thinking = modern cultural “hope”

Communion: the new covenant
