It's June Third and I am only now mentioning Pride Month. Even though we have our most radical Republican president in office in generations (and I thank God for him!), celebrating the sin of pride and celebrating unrighteousness both have become steeped into our culture in ways that didn't exist in previous generations. I don't have a whole lot of new things to say about the matter, as I've pretty much covered the summation of my true thoughts over the last few years. Even as a straight man, homosexuality is still personal to me, and even more so, it's personal to God because all sin is personal to Him.
I do still think being proud is a sin, even when it's not pride of unrighteousness, as explained in this post from last August, but I do believe in the opportunity to take this month of June and use it as a time to celebrate something different, hopefully to entice enough people to be able to forsake celebrating unrighteousness without giving up entirely the now-ingrained habit of celebrating something in this month. How about celebrating the fact that Roe vs. Wade was overturned four years ago this month, ironically under the most insanely liberal presidential administration in our country's history? Maybe we can't call it Pro-Life "Pride," but maybe we can call it Pro-Life Joy or Pro-Life Celebration. Or how about USA Flag Celebration, due to to Flag Day on June 14th? As far as I know, there is no law prohibiting us from celebrating early yet another anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. We can celebrate our flag, have another holiday dedicated to it, plus fireworks and town events all over the country. We could host events with a marching band playing John Philip Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever," and a lineup of top famous singers singing songs like "You're A Grand Old Flag" and "God Bless America." Kind of like a primer for Independence Day. June could be a month of celebrating patriotism instead of debauchery. Why not?
Not all people who have same-sex attraction choose to identify as gay. There are many (and I've known a few) who struggle with it and perhaps in their past have even sinned with homosexuality, but have since repented and dedicated their lives to Jesus Christ and choose to live holy, celibate lives as a way of turning from their sin and honoring him. I would also imagine that many of such persons would be glad to have another month of celebrating their country which still gives them so many other freedoms: to worship God, to work, to own or rent a home, to own a car or take public transportation, and more. Heck, I'm even aware of self-identifying and practicing gays who would still rather support the USA flag rather than the Gay Pride flag.
Anytime a change is made, for example the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, where liberals freak out and act as if something they clamor for (in this case, abortion) is now somehow no longer legal at all. No, people, it just means the states have the authority (and not the federal government) to decide whether to allow abortion or not. Personally, I would much prefer that abortion is banned nationwide (which is what the liberals fear), but that is not reality, not even close. Same thing with my proposals with changing celebrating "gay pride month" to "pro-life month" or "patriotism celebration month" -- it doesn't mean homosexuality would now be banned nationwide; it would just mean the majority of us who aren't gay and don't subscribe to supporting unrighteousness could actually be able to enjoy our first full month of summer without garbage being shoved down our throats.
Postscript: I still support Jaden Ivey who also spoke out against "gay pride month," and as a Bulls fan I'm ashamed of my preferred basketball team for mistreating a fellow believer the way they did. Honestly, I probably should become a "former Bulls fan." That's going to have to be a work in progress.
