Sermon message:
Thesis: Good news: Jesus has risen.
Don’t listen to the devil; he is a liar and the father of lies, and a deceiver and a thief.
John 10:10
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
But listen to Jesus: He is the truth.
Jesus: if you have seen Me, you have also seen the Father.
Matthew 28:6
Jesus: if you have seen Me, you have also seen the Father.
Matthew 28:6
He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
If Jesus said it, you can bank on it.
John 8:32
And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Point #1: God wants you to know about the birth of Jesus.
Jesus was born to save the world.
Luke 1:31
And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS.
Luke 1:35
And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.
Luke 1:37
For with God nothing will be impossible.”
The name of Jesus means “God saves.”
Matthew 1:21
And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”
Herod was used by Satan to try to kill Jesus and stop God’s plan. But he failed. Jesus accomplished what He came to do.
Point #2: God wants you to know about the life of Jesus.
Jesus: If you have seen Me you have seen the Father.
Jesus: I have come to do the will of the Father.
Jesus fed the hungry, healed the sick, cast out demons, and gave people hope.
He came to forgive people of their sins.
He came to meet people’s needs and to set them free.
Acts 10:38
how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
The Bible tells us Jesus never sinned. He was born innocent and, despite having been tempted, he lived a sinless life.
Jesus told us we can call God our Father when we pray.
He taught us how to treat other people. He taught us to forgive and how to forgive. He taught us that if we believe, then all things are possible.
Mark 9:23
Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
John 3:17
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
Satan couldn’t stop Jesus at all.
Point #3: God wants us to know about the suffering and death of Jesus.
Matthew 16:21
From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.
Matthew 26:38
Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.”
Luke 22:44
And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
Matthew 20:19
and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.”
Jesus was scourged beyond recognition. He was mocked and spat upon. He had a crown of thorns placed on His head.
Matthew 27:26-31
26 Then he released Barabbas to them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered Him to be crucified. 27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole garrison around Him. 28 And they stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him. 29 When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 30 Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head. 31 And when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified.
Crucifixion was the most painful, humiliating, debilitating way that the Romans had for someone to die.
The cross was not smooth; it was rough and splintered. Jesus’s ripped-open back was exposed to the cross’s splinters.
And yet Jesus still said this:
Luke 23:34
Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”
Jesus who knew no sin became sin for us.
No one killed Jesus; He laid down His life and died when it was finished.
Point #4: God wants you to know about the resurrection.
After Jesus died, all heaven waited; all hell waited. They all waited to see what would happen.
Luke 24:1-7
No one killed Jesus; He laid down His life and died when it was finished.
Point #4: God wants you to know about the resurrection.
After Jesus died, all heaven waited; all hell waited. They all waited to see what would happen.
Luke 24:1-7
1 Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. 2 But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. 3 Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. 5 Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, 7 saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ ”
In the mouth of two or three witnesses let a thing be established.
Luke 24:8
And they remembered His words.
1 Corinthians 15:3-8
3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. 6 After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. 7 After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. 8 Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.
The resurrection means that everything in the Bible happened exactly according to what it says.
Romans 10:9
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Point #5: God wants you.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
This is why we celebrate Jesus’s resurrection.
Satan couldn’t stop Jesus or God at all. But what he will try to do is stop people from coming to God and to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Romans 10:9
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Let’s not allow Satan to stop us.
Let’s give our lives to Jesus Christ and live for Him and in relationship of Him.
