Note before sharing the devotional: This current batch of devotionals really spoke to me when they were appearing in my daily feed. Usually I have commentary. Ever since I reached a point of recognizing my deep need for repentance and forgiveness, I’ve been focusing more on the words that I need to hear rather than the words I have to say. I anticipate that eventually I will be back to commenting, but not now. Until then, I pray that this devotional blesses you and that, if you’re already saved, this strengthens your faith; and if you haven’t yet received Jesus Christ as your King and Savior, that you will be encouraged and prompted to take that step. It’ll be the best thing you ever do in your life.
In Hebrews 4:9, the author offers a reassurance of hope: "There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God." The author is referring to more than just observing a specific day of the week. It's about an inward peace and wholeness with God, not depending on external circumstances.
Through faith and trust in God, we can find a deep and lasting rest for our souls, reminding us of the eternal rest to come. This Sabbath-rest serves as a precursor—a promise that concludes in a future, perfect rest (Revelation 14:13). The rest we get to experience here is only a shadow, and what we hope for is the reality (Colossians 2:17).
Sabbath-rest isn't earned. It’s a gift God offers to all who seek Him.
As you contemplate Hebrews 4:9, consider: What it would look like for you to fully enter God's rest in your daily life. How can you practice releasing your burdens and anxieties to Him?
The promise of Sabbath-rest is not just a concept. It's a reality for those who walk faithfully with God.
Be encouraged: instead of constant striving and stress, God wants you to experience true rest and peace.
Share your faith: Through genuine trust in God, we can find a deep and lasting rest for our souls. Share this truth with someone today!
“There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.”

Prayer: Father God, in the name of Jesus, I thank You for Your gift of rest and especially of Sabbath-rest. When I am overwhelmed from the cares of this world, help me to rest in You instead of constantly striving and stressing. I thank You for this free gift of having dedicated time with You. Please help me to never take it for granted. In Jesus's name, Amen.
