Sermons from Good News: Your yes allows God to bless.

Church 3/9/2024

Offertory scripture:

Parable of the prodigal son. God is the Father. The brother of the prodigal complained. The father’s response: everything I have has been yours the whole time. The point is God wants to give good things to you but wants and needs you to be open to receiving it.

When we bring an offering, it’s to God first and foremost. When we tithe we are honoring God.

Sermon message:

Thesis: Your yes allows God to bless.

If you obey God, He will bless you.
If you disobey God, you will reap curses.

Mark 16:15-16
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

He who believes = he who listens to God, who responds to Him.

Luke 5:1-3
So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret, and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets. Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.

Point #1: Peter chose yes and others were blessed.

If you too say yes, others will be blessed.

Luke 5:4-6
When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.

Point #2: Peter chose yes and he was blessed.

Point #3: Peter chose yes, and he and others were blessed.

Luke 5:6-7
And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.

Point #4: When you say yes you allow God to bless, to us and through us.

Luke 5:10-11
and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men.” So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him.
