Sermon message:
Thesis: Confession brings salvation.
Salvation is more than just missing hell and making heaven, although it is an important part of it.
Point #1: Problem
Romans 3:9-10
What then? Are we better than they? Not at all. For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that they are all under sin. As it is written:
“There is none righteous, no, not one;
Without Jesus, none of us are righteous. Not even Christians.
Romans 3:23
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
The world unfortunately believes that if you do enough good deeds, you’ll get into heaven. It’s good to do good deeds, but it’s only the blood of Jesus Christ that gets any of us in.
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The wages of sin means eternal death, eternal separation from Almighty God.
The wages you get when you die are for the works you have done in your lifetime.
Point #2: Hope.
But there’s hope:
Romans 5:8-9
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
Receiving Christ is how you get rid of the stain of sin. You don’t have to suffer hell or eternal separation from God; come to Jesus Christ.
Important: don’t ever tell someone that they can’t come to church or approach God until you’ve cleaned yourself up. Only Jesus can clean them up. Don’t keep them away from Christ because of their sin. Lead them to Christ because of their need for Him.
Romans 6:23 again
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Eternal life is God’s gift to us, through Jesus Christ.
Confession brings possession. Don’t be afraid of it.
Point #3: Response.
Romans 10:9-10
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Confession brings possession of salvation.
Romans 10:13
For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”
Point #4: Results
Romans 5:1-2
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Justified = just as if you never sinned.
If you don’t have peace about your salvation, that’s the devil.
If there is something legitimate that causes you to have peace, ask God to reveal what it is that is behind the lack of peace, and confess and repent before Him. Sometimes we just need to talk with God about it. (1 John 1:9)
We have access to salvation, grace, peace, and blessings, by faith, if we receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. It’s God’s free gift. We have access to all sorts of benefits.
Philippians 4:19
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:1
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
Don’t let the devil tell you you’re not saved if you’ve received Christ. There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
