Sermon message:
Thesis: Stubborn faith.
This kind of stubbornness is good when it comes to believing God and believing His promises.
Fight the good fight of faith.
Point #1: Stubborn faith overcomes race or place. (Racism or classism)
Stubborn faith says I don’t care about my race or class but that I’m a child of God. That’s what matters most.
Matthew 15:26-28
A woman of the “wrong” race and the “wrong” place still came to Jesus to ask Him to heal her daughter. Her faith still overcame all that.
Stubborn faith is needed to overcome.
Point #2: Stubborn faith overcomes disappointments.
A man whose son had a demon in him comes to Jesus’s disciples. The disciples couldn’t cast it out. So the man waited for Jesus. Jesus acknowledged this man’s faith.
Another example: the woman who had bleeding issues constantly for 12 years, came up to Jesus and touched His robe to receive healing. She had had a lot of disappointments related to finding doctors who would heal her. But she didn’t give up because she trusted Jesus to heal her.
Luke 8:48
Stubborn faith overcomes difficulties.
Point #3: Stubborn faith doesn’t limit God.
Ten lepers came to Jesus to receive healing. He healed them.
Luke 17:14
Stubborn faith says that if God says it, do it, believe it, even if it doesn’t make sense.
One of the lepers came back to thank Jesus specifically for having healed him.
Luke 17:19
Point #4: Stubborn faith doesn’t quit.
Consider blind Bartimeus. He called out “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Jesus stopped for him and restored his sight.
Mark 10:52
Point #5: Stubborn faith believes in God’s character.
Good News’ unofficial statement of faith: God is good and He always will be because He’s God.
John 10:10
James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift comes from above.
1 John 1:9
Point #6: Stubborn faith rejoices in God’s promises.
Stubborn faith rejoices in and believes in God’s promises BEFORE it manifests.
Consider Hannah, who longs for a child.
1 Samuel 1:15-18
Mark 11:24
Philippians 4:19
