Offertory scripture:

It’s important what we keep our minds on. Keep our minds on God and His promises.

Be joyful in our giving also.

Ephesians 3:19-21

Know that God loves you. Faith works by love. Keep your eyes on Him.

Sermon message:

Thesis: Rest is a God idea.

God idea; good idea.

Caveat: God still values work. Work is still important.

2 Thessalonians 3:10-15

Work is important to God.

Even Jesus did value work. Parable of the two sons.

Matthew 9:36-38

But rest is important to God as well.

Genesis 1:27

When you rest you get blessed.

Genesis 2:2 even God rested.

Genesis 2:3 God blessed the sabbath.

Exodus 20:8 remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Point #1: Rest is needed.

Mark 6:31 even Jesus needed rest during His period of ministry.

Matthew 14:23 sometimes Jesus even needed rest from His disciples.

Point #2: Jesus offers you rest.

Matthew 11:28-30

Give Jesus your burdens.

Ephesians 2:8-9

Rest your salvation on Jesus Christ.

You’re not saved by works but by faith in Christ alone.

Ephesians 2:10. We are created in Jesus for good works, which God ordained that we should walk in them.

Hebrews 4:9-10

You can rest once you realize what Jesus Christ has done for you. Anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works just as God did from His.

Point #3: Receive daily peace

Point #3A: Come to Jesus daily.

Don’t let a day go by without spending time with Jesus.

Point #3B: Cast your care on God daily.

1 Peter 5:7

Persist in coming to Jesus and casting your cares on Him. Don’t get discouraged; don’t give up.

Point #3C: Walk by faith; not by sight.

Don’t go by your natural eyes; go by your spiritual eyes.
