Sermons from Good News: Love does work

Church 11/6/2021

Offertory scripture:

The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are planted in the house of the Lord Shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing,
Psalm 92:12-14 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Psalm%2092:12-14&version=NKJV

Sermon message:

Faith is powerful. We cannot please God without it. (Hebrews 11:6)

Nothing works without faith. Anything in the spiritual realm. But faith works by love.

Power of love series part 1

Sermon thesis: Love does work

Love is very important. It is powerful. And faith works by it. And love restores.

And the human race was restored by love.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
John 3:16-18 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=John%203:16-18&version=NKJV

Love is also a fruit of the Holy Spirit. It’s the first fruit listed.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Galatians%205:22-23&version=NKJV

The Bible says that God is powerful. The Bible also says that God is love.

Point #1: God does not lie.

Love never fails. It is eternal.

Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.
1 Corinthians 13:8 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=1%20Corinthians%2013:8&version=NKJV

Not only is love eternal but it is powerful.

And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=1%20Corinthians%2013:13&version=NKJV

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
Matthew 7:24-27 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Matthew%207:24-27&version=NKJV

God says you’re blessed when you hear what He says and then do it.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
John 13:34-35 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=John%2013:34-35&version=NKJV

Point #2: Love needs to grow

We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other,
2 Thessalonians 1:3 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=2%20Thessalonians%201:3&version=NKJV

When love grows, faith grows.

Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Romans 5:5 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Romans%205:5&version=NKJV

We need to feed our love with the word of God.

Point #3: When love grows, fear leaves and faith comes.

When love grows, faith comes, fear leaves, and we can learn to do new things and grow.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
1 John 4:18 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=1%20John%204:18&version=NKJV

Point #4: never judge a thing too soon.

Don’t give up on loving another person. Don’t judge the process too soon or give in to discouragement just because the love you’re pouring into another person hasn’t borne fruit yet.

Love always works. Don’t give up. It’s not over.

Point #5: God promises to bless you for giving your love.

Give with the right motives. Giving with the wrong motives don’t mean anything to God. But giving the right way means everything to Him.

Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”
Luke 6:38 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Luke%206:38&version=NKJV

God will bless you if you walk in love.

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
Galatians 6:7 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Galatians%206:7&version=NKJV

Point #6: Godly character is doing what is right no matter what others do

Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’ So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?” And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”
Luke 10:30-37 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Luke%2010:30-37&version=NKJV

Point #7: Don’t give up before your breakthrough

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Galatians 6:9 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Galatians%206:9&version=NKJV

Watch what you say. Speak faith, speak love. Don’t speak unbelief or curse what you’re doing.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
Proverbs 18:21 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Proverbs%2018:21&version=NKJV

Love another person and don’t give up.
