Sermons from Good News: great faith, part 9

[Blogger's note: after being crazy busy one month, and then crazy sick for much of another month, by God's grace I am finally back and able to catch up on posting my notes from sermons at my church for the months of June and July. Thank you all for your prayers; I am believing and claiming that I will be completely healed, and even healed beyond whatever Satan or the world calls a "preexisting condition." I completely reject that term in Jesus' name, and choose to receive by faith the complete healing that GOD says He has for me: a new [undisclosed part of the body] in Jesus' name!

In the meantime, I pray that you are blessed by these sermon notes as much as I was blessed by these sermons. I will post sermons twice weekly until we are caught up again, in the same manner that I did from January through May, 2021.]

Church 6-12-2021

Offertory scripture:

My son, do not forget my teaching, But have your heart comply with my commandments;
Proverbs 3:1 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Proverbs%203:1&version=NASB

Faith builds trust. You build trust in someone by spending time with them and get to know them. This is critical for our relationship with God.

For length of days and years of life And peace they will add to you.
Proverbs 3:2 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Proverbs%203:2&version=NASB

This is God’s promise.

Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and a good reputation In the sight of God and man.
Proverbs 3:3-4 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Proverbs%203:3-4&version=NASB

Instructions: spend time with God in His word. Read it. Then do what it says. Then God has His promise and payoff.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your body And refreshment to your bones. Honor the Lord from your wealth, And from the first of all your produce; Then your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.
Proverbs 3:5-10 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Proverbs%203:5-10&version=NASB

This is the recipe for success. Especially regarding trusting God. Spend time with Him so you’ll know more about what He is all about. He will indeed bless you.

Sermon message:

Great faith part 9: The attitude of faith

Your attitude can determine your altitude.

How you are and treat God and others will determine how high you will go.

The attitude will help you get through the storm or even rise above the storm. In real life and in the spiritual realm.

Faith is a spiritual force that has an effect on our natural life.

Our attitude should be rooted in love. In God’s love.

But we continue to preach because we have the same kind of faith the psalmist had when he said, “I believed in God, so I spoke.”
2 Corinthians 4:13 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=2%20Corinthians%204:13&version=NLT

We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
2 Corinthians 4:13 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=2%20Corinthians%204:13&version=KJV

Faith says: “I’m going to make it. I’m going to get back up.”

For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
Proverbs 24:16 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Proverbs%2024:16&version=KJV

Don’t interfere with good people’s lives; don’t try to get the best of them. No matter how many times you trip them up, God-loyal people don’t stay down long; Soon they’re up on their feet, while the wicked end up flat on their faces.
Proverbs 24:15 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Proverbs%2024:15&version=MSG

Question: How do I get and keep the right faith attitude?

Point #1: spend time with God.

Make an appointment with God in your schedule book if it helps to maintain that commitment.

If Jesus needed to spend time with God, we need to spend time with God.

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
James 4:7 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=James%204:7&version=NKJV

Point #2: spend time with believers who are positive

People who are encouraging and remind you of your identity in Christ, and remind you of God’s love.

Negative people will affect you negatively. Spend time with God; He will lift you up.

We are not talking about opinions. It’s about the facts, the truth.

Opinionated people cannot stand other opinionated people.

Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.
Psalm 1:1-2 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Psalm%201:1-2&version=NKJV

How well God must like you— you don’t walk in the ruts of those blind-as-bats, you don’t stand with the good-for-nothings, you don’t take your seat among the know-it-alls.
Psalm 1:1 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Psalm%201:1&version=MSG

Point #3: Remind yourself who you are in Christ.

(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
2 Corinthians 5:7 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=2%20Corinthians%205:7&version=KJV

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=2%20Corinthians%205:17&version=KJV

How can I keep a positive attitude? Know who you are in Christ. Meditate on it.

Therefore there is now no condemnation [no guilty verdict, no punishment] for those who are in Christ Jesus [who believe in Him as personal Lord and Savior].
Romans 8:1 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Romans%208:1&version=AMP

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
John 1:12 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=John%201:12&version=NKJV

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
2 Corinthians 5:21 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=2%20Corinthians%205:21&version=NKJV

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
1 Peter 2:9 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=1%20Peter%202:9&version=NKJV

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the Lord upholds him with His hand.
Psalm 37:23-24 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Psalm%2037:23-24&version=NKJV

But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Isaiah%2040:31&version=NKJV

Point #4: Refuse to spend time worrying about mistakes

When you look back, you slow down automatically.

You can learn from your mistakes. But don’t dwell on them. When you dwell on them, you invite fear in your mind and heart.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=2%20Timothy%201:7&version=NKJV

Point #5: spend a day being positive

An invitation to actually do this.

How do you become more positive? Practice. Train.
Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Proverbs%2022:6&version=NKJV

Point #6: Take time to review your words.

Note: do not review other people’s words; review ONLY your words.
